On land, being connected is often taken for granted. Through data plans or Wi-Fi networks, getting online usually requires no more than the tap of a button. But at sea, many miles away from anything, staying connected poses unique challenges.
Seamless Wi-Fi, a new feature on the Celebrity Cruises mobile app, provides guests a dramatically improved experience by making connecting to the internet, purchasing, activating, and sharing internet packages onboard easier than ever before. This results in reduced lines and inquiries at the iLounge (Internet) desk, improved guest satisfaction, and increased onboard Internet revenue.

Leveraging an intuitive app user interface, coupled with state-of-the-art satellite technology and native mobile device functionality, Seamless Wi-Fi offers fast, reliable internet to guests no matter where they are on our ships and at our private destinations, so they can share their vacation moments, stream their favorite shows, or catch up on emails. Seamless Wi-Fi makes it all possible, effortlessly.
Gone are the days of complicated logins and spotty connections. Thanks to Seamless Wi-Fi, guests can bypass their device settings to connect to the Internet onboard. Unlike other Internet connectivity paradigms in the travel and hospitality industry that require guests to create and remember account credentials, Seamless Wi-Fi works with other components such as app Guest Check-In and the ships’ wi-fi networks, to detect the moment guests come onboard and prompt them to connect to the Internet through the app’s Internet Hub. Seamless Wi-Fi also simplifies the experience for guests who wish to connect devices that are not equipped with the Celebrity Cruises mobile app, such as laptop computers or tablets, by allowing them to generate 4-digit single-use Internet sharing codes with ease. Guests can also use these codes to temporarily share their Internet packages with friends and family.

Seamless Wi-Fi was deployed across Celebrity Cruises’ entire fleet between July and October 2024. Celebrity Xcel, joining the fleet in 2025, will also be equipped with the tech infrastructure to offer this experience to guests. Various Royal Caribbean ships are also equipped with the feature, which will continue to be rolled out through 2025.
The feature has been well received by guests and crew alike. Following deployment on Celebrity Apex, for example, Wi-Fi ratings went up by seven points, Internet connectivity issues saw a 2.5 percent reduction, and the app’s overall rating went up by four points. Fleet-wide adoption is tracking initial projections, with most guests entering the Internet Hub and connecting through Seamless Wi-Fi (78 and 66 percent respectively), 14 percent of guests purchasing Internet packages through the hub, and 62 percent of paid Internet guests generating shared codes.
