Royal Caribbean Brings Hospitality Careers to Life at Sea

For 30 students from Paolo Baffi High School in Civitavecchia, Italy, hospitality moved from theory to reality when they stepped onboard Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas. What began as a ship visit became an immersive look at the teamwork, scale, and career opportunities that power one of the world's largest hospitality operations.

Royal Caribbean Group sponsored the Hospitality and Culinary Program in partnership with the Catalano Foundation and the Paolo Baffi Institute. The 2025 class marked the program's inaugural cohort.

Over the span of several weeks, students from the high school were introduced to the fundamentals of hospitality through classroom lectures and chef-led masterclasses.

But stepping onboard brought those lessons to life. For many, it was their first time on a cruise ship, and the impact was immediate. Students described feeling inspired and energized as they explored the scale and complexity of shipboard operations.

“Seeing the ship in operation helped me understand how many different careers come together to create one guest experience,” said participating student, Alessandra. “From culinary and hospitality teams to the coordination happening behind the scenes, it showed us the level of professionalism, teamwork, and attention to detail required to succeed in an international environment.”

It was a perspective that no classroom lesson alone can fully provide.

The visit also created space for collaboration among all partners involved. Representatives from Fondazione Catalano, Fiumicino Waterfront, educators, participating chefs, and the Group came together to reflect on the program’s future.

Following the successful day, everyone involved agreed that the program was the strongest when education and real-world exposure were delivered.

The day onboard Brilliance of the Seas proved that even a single experience in the right environment can shift perspectives. Students left with something tangible — an understanding of what a career in hospitality can truly look like.

Based on strong engagement and positive feedback, the ship visit is expected to become a permanent component of the program, strengthening the connection between education and future career opportunities

This initiative reflects Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to workforce development as part of its broader SEA the Future mission to energize and celebrate the communities they visit by inspiring future generations, connecting with local cultures, and supporting economic vibrancy.
