Supporting Communities After Disaster Strikes: Royal Caribbean Group Foundation's Global Earthquake Relief Efforts

This summer, the Royal Caribbean Group Foundation committed $250,000 in earthquake relief funding to help support recovery efforts in Venezuela, Japan, Colombia, and Indonesia through Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) and trusted local organizations on the ground.

The relief funding is part of the Royal Caribbean Group Foundation’s broader disaster work, which supports communities affected by natural disasters through nonprofit partners, emergency supplies, recovery resources, and employee engagement. For decades, Royal Caribbean Group has stood alongside communities in times of need. Whether responding to hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, or other natural disasters, the Group’s approach has always been rooted in a simple belief: when communities face hardship, it has a responsibility to help.

When a powerful earthquake strikes, devastation is immediate. Homes are damaged, essential services are disrupted, and families face the challenging task of rebuilding their lives. This summer, communities across Venezuela, Japan, Colombia, and Indonesia experienced that reality firsthand as a series of major earthquakes impacted thousands of people.

Now with the Royal Caribbean Group Foundation and trusted disaster-relief partners, the Group committed $250,000 in earthquake relief funding through GEM to support relief and recovery efforts in Venezuela, Japan, Colombia, and Indonesia. Together with local organizations on the ground, these efforts are helping communities access critical assistance today while laying out the groundwork for recovery in the months and years ahead.

Employees Making a Difference

Across Royal Caribbean Group, employees often ask the same question when disaster strikes: How can we help?

After the earthquakes, employees donated through donations and volunteer efforts. Some volunteered at GEM's warehouse in Florida, helping prepare and package emergency supplies destined for impacted communities.

"When the earthquakes struck, I felt helpless watching from afar, so volunteering with GEM gave me a chance to do something meaningful. It made me incredibly proud to be part of a company that mobilizes so quickly to support communities in need," said Julissa Duarte, Royal Caribbean Group employee.

The Royal Caribbean Group Employee Hardship Fund also remains available to support crew and shoreside employees directly affected by natural disasters, reinforcing the Group’s commitment to helping its own people during challenging times.

A Commitment to Energizing Communities

Disasters may make headlines for days, but recovery often takes years. Through Royal Caribbean Group’s SEA the Future platform, and its ‘E’ for energizing communities pillar, the Group works alongside trusted partners to help communities navigate the long road ahead.

Behind every disaster are families, neighbors, and communities facing an uncertain future. As rebuilding continues, the Group remains committed to supporting organizations on the ground that are helping restore stability, hope, and opportunity where they are needed most.
